TELECOM

US Senate

The Senate Committee on the Judiciary has scheduled a hearing of the Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law entitled: “Data Brokers – Is Consumers’ Information Secure?”  for November 3, 2015, at 2:30 p.m., in Room 226 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

Kansas

The Kansas State Corporation Commission has resolved several open issues associated with the methodology carriers should use to determine and report their Kansas Universal Service Fund (KUSF) assessable revenues.  Issues addressed include how to allocate and report end user discounts and revenue for bundled services; allocation of VoIP revenue, including revenue for VoIP offerings marketed as free; and how early termination fees (ETFs) should be reported. TMI Briefing Service subscribers see Briefing dated 10/21/15.

New Jersey

Gov. Christie signed A-617 (P.L. 2015, c.119) which will prohibit sending unsolicited advertising by text messaging, and requires companies offering text messaging services to allow customers to block all incoming and outgoing text messages. The act will take effect on November 1, 2016.
