VoIP Regulation: More than you thought?

As I participated in our product demonstration last week on the VoIP Requirements publication, I was reminded how diverse VoIP regulation is across the nation. The FCC and state regulatory agencies impose certain operational requirements, financial obligations, and reporting requirements on VoIP providers that can be challenging to track by jurisdiction.

NARUC Considers Telecom Related Resolutions at Annual Meeting

The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners is expected to consider three telecommunications-related resolutions at its annual meeting November 17 - 20, 2013. The resolutions address slamming, surveillance programs, and federalism. The draft resolutions will not become official NARUC policy until they are approved by the NARUC Board. Until recently, when I thought of VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol), I thought about its connection to telecommunications in general and to the work that we do here at TMI. We prepare applications for certification,  state registrations (where applicable), file FCC Form 499 reports, and more for many VoIP providers.
